Hungarian immigrant George Mikes, a writer of acute observation and pathos, studied the methods of British humor and determined that nonsense was the "ultimate literary rebellion against an orderly universe shaking off the unbearable chains of everyday orderliness and logic. They took some honey, and plenty of money, This genre of humor, developed by Lear's prolific writing, is recognizable today in the fiction of Lewis Carroll and nursery rhymes like "Hey Diddle, Diddle" and "Owl and the Pussycat" (the latter written by Lear). He is best known (and most appreciated by this author) for his illustrated nonsense verse. Lear was many things, an avid botanist, a traveler, and a for-hire illustrator during the early 18th century.
